On June 20, 1946, Bishop James J. Sweeney proudly proclaimed that a new church was added to the Diocese of Honolulu. It was called Our Lady Star of the Sea and was located on a former Japanese Language School site on Waialae Avenue, one block from its present location. The church was to be staffed by the Marist Fathers and brothers. The first pastor of the fifty-second parish in the Diocese was Father Edward H. Donze, SM. Assisting Father Donze was Father John J. Dallas, SM.
In 2004 the Marist fathers left for the mainland. Fr. John Sullivan was the last Marist priest assigned to the Parish. Then the Blessed Sacrament Fathers took over headed by Fr. Mark del Rosario, SSS as Pastor together with other Blessed Sacrament Fathers and Brothers. At present Fr. Francisco De Los Reyes, SSS assigned as Pastor, and Fr. Victor "Junvic" B. Diolata, Jr., SSS as Parochial Vicar.
